FAQ:

How to print from applications (eg. netscape) in KDE?

Answer:

Well, that's pretty easy. Just use the command kprinter where you used lpr before:
prompt$ kprinter <file>
A dialog window pops up to specify the printer queue (default f232_hp2) plus lots of extra features like:
  • print preview
  • page layout (two sheets on one landscaped page)
  • posterizing big files (see CreatingLargeFormatPostscript)
  • user definable filters
  • ...

So, for example, you might configure gv to print thru kprinter instead lpr by default in the gv setup menu.
