Project topic
partial parsing and information extraction
Overview
The aim of the project is to conduct a preliminary study of partial parsing of natural language, a problem that offers promising possibilites of adapting the depth of analysis to the available data in each case. Partial parsing can be expected to have good robustness, since the structural interpretation is limited to those parts of the input where this is licensed by the grammar and the lexicon, while other parts are ignored. The approach is inspired, not least, by human comprehension of foreign languages, where superficial understanding is sometimes possible without a complete interpretation of the sentence structure.
Funding
The project Papa (ME 1472/4-1, ME 1472/4-2) is being funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation) and
is the successor of the closely related project Dawai which ended in september 2001.
