+ Joint Understanding

There are particular ways by means of which speakers signal to each other how they understand what their communication partner is saying and thus create a joint understanding. These procedures are on the one hand connected to non-verbal feedback, on the other to subtle procedures that have been named `the next-turn-proof-procedure' by Sacks, Schegloff and Jefferson 1974. These means are very restricted in chat, and it has to be seen which procedures internet users take in order to achieve joint understanding.
