Incorporation of thematic processing into the WCDG system
Natural language is comprehended on the basis of small constituents. Besides
the syntactic processing pathway there is another pathway widely accepted in
the psycholinguistic literature. This pathway establishes an alternative form
of hierarchical structure on the basis of thematic dependencies. Bornkessel
(2002) incorporates the argument dependency model of Primus (1999) into a
neurocognitive framework in order to model human language comprehension.
In my talk I will explain how this argument dependency model can be
incorporated into the WCDG system. The goal of this research is to find
phenomena in the language processing of WCDG that correspond to phenomena
that can be found in human language processing in order to give evidence for
the WCDG system to be cognitively adequate.
