Language Technology for eLearning - a multilingual approach from the German perspective

Eelco Mossel

In the European project LT4eL (Language Technology for eLearning), methodologies and tools are being developed for semi-automatic annotation, information extraction and semantic search for learning materials in multiple languages. The aim is to improve the effectiveness of Learning Management Systems (LMS). The information extraction tools include keyword extraction and glossary candidate detection. They work on input texts that are annotated with linguistic and layout information. In this talk, we focus on the linguistic analysis of German learning objects, on the file formats that are used uniformly throughout the project, and on the development and evaluation of the glossary candidate detector.
