Research Position in the COPA project
The
Natural Language Systems group at the
Hamburg University, Germany is striving to strengthen
its interdisciplinary profile in the area of
Natural Language Processing. Applications are
invited for a half-time position in a project on
psycholinguistic aspects of parsing with weighted constraints.
The successful applicant is expected to investigate possibilities for relating natural
language systems to the performance of the human model. This research includes
- modifications to an existing constraint-based parser and its grammar to make it comparable with results from psycholinguistic experiments,
- the evaluation of system versions with respect to their psycholinguistic plausibility,
- the comparison of the system performance with observations from psycholinguistic experiments and
- publishing of research results.
In addition, the successful applicant is expected to participate in the maintenance and extension
of the existing research infrastructure of the Natural Language Systems group.
The applicant must have a university degree on the masters level in Computational Linguistics,
Linguistics or Computer Science. A strong background in psycholinguistic methods as well as
expertise in software system development is required. Moreover, a good command of English and
German will be expected.
The position is limited to a period of two years. The possibility of an extension into a third year
depends upon the availability of additional funding. Salary is according to German public service
pay agreement (BAT IIa/2) and will be in the range of €1250 to €2100 per month depending on
age and family size. The weekly working time is 20 hours. Beyond their project related obligations
applicants are given an opportunity to work on their doctoral studies.
