Ontologies for information fusion

Abstract

The course will address the following topics:

  • what is an ontology and how can it be used for information description
  • the problem of semantic heterogeneity (multiple ontologies, describing multiple prespectives)
  • the possible solutions to semantic heterogeneity two main approaches the mediated approach and the p2p approach (presentation and discussion)
  • Matching heterogeneous ontology, using natural language resources (WORDNET)
  • practical session with a computational system for integrating ontologies, (DRAGO - Distributed Reasoning Architecture for a galaxy of Ontologies)
